Voting against prostate cancer
See you at the Brownlow Night
ETU members would be aware that the union is a prominent supporter of the campaign to raise awareness about prostate cancer. That’s why the ETU is a sponsor of the E J Whitten Foundation, named in honour of Footscray Football Club legend, Ted Whitten, who died of prostate cancer.
Ted Whitten junior is the CEO of the foundation and, not surprisingly works tirelessly to raise funds to combat cancer. Although the ETU is committed to increasing the number of women in the electrical trades, it remains a fact that the union is predominantly made up of men, who of course are at risk of dying from prostate cancer.
Shop steward Toss Battle has a simple message for ETU members. ‘I lost a good mate from Doveton, comedian Dave Grant to cancer at the premature of age of 50, so I can’t stress enough how important it is for blokes to visit a doctor and have the basic checks. At all his comedy gigs Dave would tell his audience to make sure they had the appropriate cancer checks. So that’s why I’m asking male members to get checked out. See you at the Brownlow Night’.
ETU members should ask their shop steward for more information about the night, which will start at 6pm sharp on Monday 20 September at:
Hilton – On the Park
192 Wellington Pde
East Melbourne
