Senator backs ETU’s ILO Complaint
Greens Senator Rachel Siewert has thrown her weight behind the ETU campaign by moving amendments to the Fair Work Bill 2008, requiring it to be reviewed by the International Labor Organisation (ILO).
Siewart, on the night of Tuesday the 17th of March, put forward a series of amendments to the bill including “as soon as practicable after the commencement of the Act” it be submitted to the ILO committee of Experts; for the Minster to provide the ILO Committee “any additional information it requires” to establish compliance; for any response from the ILO to be put before the parliament within six days of being received: and regular reporting on measure to implement ILO conventions. Not surprisingly, the Government did not support these amendments.
