Exposure of workers to asbestos at the Mercy Hospital site

Heavens no!  Allegations in the media that a developer attempted to bribe a safety rep to turn a blind eye to the exposure of workers to asbestos at the Mercy Hospital site in East Melbourne will come as no surprise to construction workers. However, what might come as a surprise is Julia Gillard’s line that the ‘Australian people voted to get rid of WorkChoices’. Does she think we believe she’s done what the people  wanted?

Doesn’t this saga only confirm why building workers are so passionate in their opposition to the ABCC? The only people who really care about safety are building workers. But when they do care John Lloyd and his taskforce mates come down on them like a ton of bricks. It's this lack of care that was responsible for the West Gate Bridge disaster and so many other industrial fatalities, including those brought on by asbestos.
